Mary May
About this Craftsperson
Mary May has been a professional woodcarver for over 30 years. She studied the European style of traditional woodcarving with a variety of master carvers. During her carving career, Mary has specialized in classical techniques, focusing on decorative furniture and architectural details. She has run an online woodcarving school for 13 years with over 300 video lessons and teaches at a variety of schools in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Mary has written her first book, Carving the Acanthus Leaf, available through Lost Art Press, and has appeared on Roy Underhill’s The Woodwright’s Shop four times. Her passion is to create beautiful woodcarvings and to keep the art of traditional woodcarving alive and well through teaching others the craft.
