Dave Foster

About this Craftsperson

Dave Foster is a lifelong musician and woodworker who turned his passion into a full-time craft. After decades as a dentist, he launched Foster Mandolin and Guitar Company in 2020, building custom instruments that blend artistry, precision, and Tennessee-sourced materials. David’s love for vintage instruments goes back over 35 years, and he is always up for a good restoration challenge. In 2024, he started hosting hands-on camps for banjo and mandolin assembly and inlay, welcoming folks of all skill levels to learn, build, and have a great time in Tennessee. Being a dentist led David into the world of inlay from the start (he even has an inlay bench in the dental lab at his office). Mainly concentrating on musical instrument inlay, with the occasional furniture or accessory box, he has refined his skills over the years and is now doing inlay work for some of the most famous luthiers in the country.
