Doug Carpenter

About this Craftsperson

Doug Carpenter is a custom gunstock maker based in northeast Ohio. With a last name like Carpenter, many assumed he was destined for woodworking. As a teenager working at a Schwinn bicycle shop, he was asked to help with carpentry on the building’s exterior, sparking a passion that has guided his career ever since. In his twenties, Doug started a remodeling business, which he successfully ran for 23 years. In 2011, he shifted his focus to founding Carpenter’s Custom Gunstocks, where he builds custom-fit shotgun stocks and the occasional rifle. Each project begins with getting to know the shooter and their firearm, ensuring a precise fit. He finishes his work with hand-cut checkering patterns designed to the customer’s preference. Doug is an active contributor on the Shotgunworld forums, where he shares his expertise. Away from the shop, he enjoys clays courses with friends and remodeling projects around his own home. Doug has been featured twice in Clay Shooting USA magazine.
