Simon Begg is a full-time woodturner, carver, and instructor from Port Stephens, Australia. He found his love for timber work, especially turning, when in high school. It didn’t take long for other hobbies to be dropped, and his time was dedicated behind the lathe. The beauty of woodturning is that there are endless possibilities of what can be made, and Simon looks for the unique jobs to focus on challenging himself. Sharing his knowledge has become a key part of his work as the lead turning teacher at the Wood Academy in Sydney. Simon has been a regular teacher at Turnfest, Australia’s national conference, as well as teaching in the USA and New Zealand. When he isn’t in the shed, Simon is often hiking, looking for wildlife to photograph, playing squash, or watching other sports.
