Workshop Description

Only two thumbs are required to produce moving results-even those who feel like they have “ten thumbs” can succeed in this class. Anyone who has worked with wood has already used the fundamental building blocks of design: lines, planes, and forms. This engaging course reveals the tools students already possess in their conceptual “toolbox” and demonstrates how to put them to work. Through an exploration of movement-understood as “S” curves and rotating planes-participants will learn to recognize, enhance, and create motion in their designs using simple, approachable principles. Students may choose from a variety of small projects, such as: Juniper on Mesquite Cross (wall or table mount), Alabaster Heart with Complementary Wooden Base (wall or table mount) and Blended Turned Vessel and Found Wood Composition (wall or table mount). By applying these design principles, students will expand their awareness of form and develop the ability to integrate movement into woodworking, craft, or artwork of any kind. The result: a deeper understanding of design and a beautiful, finished piece of art.

Key Points

  • Learn to control them to enhance the quality and beauty of all future projects
