Workshop Description
This workshop will be an intensive study of understanding how to work with wood, both through design and physical hands-on practice. The focus of this process-oriented workshop is the development of skills that can be applied to building fine wood furniture. There will not be a specific project—just lots of hands-on practice. Marc will demonstrate different woodworking techniques, such as unusual joinery, veneering, carving (including how to model in clay), inlay techniques, surface texturing, edge treatments, working with stone, applying veneer on curved or unusual shapes, shaping and sculpting wood, and developing design. Each day will include a series of demonstrations and lectures followed by a lot of hands-on practice. There will be special sessions on wood selection, machine techniques, using modern adhesives, finishing, and of course, safety. This workshop is for anyone wanting to take their furniture to the next level. Students will come away with a better understanding of how to embellish their work and how to add design concepts that make their projects unique.
