In this hands-on class, students build a 6x6x48 steam box from ¾” weather-resistant plywood. Designed with an interior sliding ladder and powered by one or two wallpaper steamers, the box is efficient, safe, and built to last for years of use. Once complete, the box is put straight to work, bending a hook, a pull, or experimenting with curves. Students learn what makes a steam box effective, how to maximize heat and time for bending success, and how this design has been refined through countless iterations. The class also introduces advanced jigs and bending techniques to inspire future projects. By the end of the course, each participant takes home a professional-quality steam box and the knowledge to bend wood with confidence, plus a strong foundation for continuing with the Steam-Bending & Basketry class.
