Workshop Description

Kumiko is a delicate and sophisticated technique for assembling wooden pieces without the use of nails. In this 6-day workshop, students will be introduced to traditional Kumiko methods. The “Mastering the Art of Kumiko Making” workshop, which focuses on decorative wall panels, is ideal for those looking to learn the basics and advance their skills in creating 30° and 60° grids. Participants will explore up to 7 patterns made using both hand and machine techniques.

  • Make a 24” x 42” decorative panel
  • Learning the simple geometry formulas to identify the dimensions of the patterns
  • Learning both handwork & power-tool methods
  • 7 to 8 different Kumiko patterns
  • Understanding a three-way lap joint
