Workshop Description

This workshop is perfect for woodturners who want to add embellished flair to their functional bowls and spindle work, or for turners who want to take their work in a more sculptural direction. In this class, students will use rotary power tools to drastically alter the forms of conventionally turned items in creative ways. Students will start by turning a series of bowls and then will use a variety of carving burrs to alter the forms and create interesting textures. Students will harness the power of pyrography to burn detailed patterns into their work and will have fun playing with controlled flamework to enhance the unique grain patterns within a form. Finally, instant visual interest will be created by using color to highlight carved textures. A special emphasis will be placed on color mixing and how to make informed color choices. Morph your turnings into a three-dimensional canvas with endless possibilities!
