Workshop Description
Checkering is more than just a decorative touch—it provides essential grip on a firearm while also offering endless design possibilities. Beyond guns, checkering can bring unique patterns and texture to turned bowls, humidors, jewelry boxes, and even fine furniture. In this class, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of checkering, from tool use to pattern design and layout. Students will practice cutting a variety of patterns, including borders, ribbons, and flourishes, and finish by applying a protective coat to their completed work. By the end, participants will have the skills to add both function and artistry to their own projects. Students wishing to buy a checkering starter kit the cost can purchase them for approximately $400 directly from Ullman Precision tools.
