Workshop Description
In this hands-on workshop, participants will construct a high-top patio table inspired by the German National Carpentry Team’s innovative design. The project features a self-supporting X-brace structure built using practical stereotomy (Schiftung), the traditional full-scale layout method that ensures precise angles, accurate lengths, and flawless joinery. Through this process, students will not only gain confidence in layout and cutting techniques but also experience the elegance of traditional German carpentry methods. The table’s striking design is defined by a repetitive “Mandala” geometry, creating a symmetrical pattern that is both visually captivating and structurally efficient. Each element interlocks seamlessly with the others, forming a cohesive structure where aesthetics and functionality are in perfect balance. By combining Schiftung with this geometric approach, participants will refine their technical skills, explore traditional design principles, and leave with a stable, modern table rooted in centuries-old craft tradition.
