Workshop Description
This workshop is open to all skill levels. The curriculum will be tailored so that each student can move at their own pace according to their skill level; beginner, intermediate and advanced techniques will be demonstrated. Leah will begin with an overview of the flameworking (also called lampworking) process including studio safety and set up. Day one will focus on petal inspired beads and pendants using a variety of dot placement and encasing techniques. On the second day students will learn how to create encased floral landscapes. Day three will begin with pulling cane and making murini to incorporate into the jellyfish creations. On day four students will have the option to keep practicing the skills they’ve learned or dive into the world of glass implosions and encasing techniques to create beautiful 3 D blossoms. Day five will be a day to practice and fine tune skills and receive further assistance on anything students might be struggling with. Students will have the opportunity to request demonstrations beyond those planned for the class throughout the week. At the end of the week, students will leave with a variety of glass artworks they’ve created as well as an understanding of what is needed to build a home studio if they don’t already have one.
