One Piece Coffee Scoop: Multiaxis & Jig Building Techniques
with Christian Brisepierre
$605
$550 tuition + $55 material fee
Workshop Description
Christian’s first task in the morning is to make coffee: two scoops in the pot using a walnut scoop he turned ten years ago. It is satisfying to start the day using a simple object of your own making. This class will involve mostly spindle turning and a bit of face-grain turning. Students will start by assembling a kit of custom jaws (kit provided). Christian will demonstrate how to turn a precise sphere for the bowl using specialized techniques and a homemade gadget. Multiple blanks will be prepared to allow for experimenting with different handle designs. From there, participants will finish the wooden jaws and create a spoon holder using HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which will be provided. The artistic side of the class comes alive with multi-axis turning, giving each handle a unique shape. Finally, students will use the jig to hollow the scoop, aiming for a consistent wall thickness, and add decorative details to the handle. By the end of the weekend, each student will leave with a custom coffee scoop that is both functional and personal.
