About this Class

Both functional and artistic leather objects date as far back as 33 centuries. Leather craft blossomed with the discovery of the New World, and many skilled artisans traveled to the Americas. They were influenced by the lush landscape. Geometric designs and floral patterns became popular and have continued to be in demand today. Using the same traditional and time-honored methods, Keith will provide expert training in fundamental methods for working leather. These techniques are timeless and apply to craftsmen of all levels, from beginner to master. Students will construct and tool a 6 ½” x 8 ½” padfolio to accommodate a 5” x 7” notepad. They will focus on developing skills while creating this notepad from start to finish. Related skills to be taught include casing, swivel knife and stamping techniques, skiving, cutting, stitching, burnishing, finishing edges, oiling, antiquing and finishing. Patterns and leather scrap for practice will be provided.
