Discover the world of metalworking by diving straight into a hands-on project: building your very own rocket stove. Over the course of the week, you’ll learn the fundamentals of welding and fabrication, then immediately put those skills to use creating a high-efficiency, low-smoke cooking device. At the end of class, everyone will fire up their stove for a live test. Rocket stoves are not only practical and portable, but they also make the perfect beginner welding project. (And yes, you’ll finally have a use for those woodworking scraps as fuel!) Along the way, students will gain the confidence to begin fabricating with metal in their own shop. With these skills, the door will be open to mixing metal with wood in furniture and projects, as well as fabricating custom tools and fixtures. In addition to the rocket stove, the McFie brothers will guide participants through designing and building other useful household and workshop items to take home. Be prepared: this class will expand your imagination and show you just how many ways metalworking can bring your ideas to life.
