Workshop Description

The rafter tail tables are a study in adaptation, both in utility and design. The basic concept of construction allows adaptation to a variety of uses simply by changing the length of the various parts. The design features original Greene & Greene Japanese motifs, but also incorporates newly introduced Japanese elements. Students will have their choice of making two tables-either a coffee table or an end table. One will be assembled in class, and one cut out but assembled only as far as time permits. The tops rest independently on the “rafter tail” supports and can be either the same species of wood or a contrasting species. Contact Darrell in advance of class if you would like advice on contrasting woods. As an alternative, the tops can be glass. It will be a fun week of woodworking!
