Workshop Description
Learn the essential techniques and skills needed to reupholster furniture by starting with a classic Eastlake style chair. This hands-on class is perfect for beginners with little to no upholstery experience, as well as those looking to refresh and strengthen their skills. Every upholstery project begins with the foundation. In this course, students will take a chair from the bare frame to the finished fabric and trim, gaining the knowledge and confidence to approach a wide range of upholstery projects. Each student will be provided with a chair frame and basic supplies to complete a full-size upholstered chair. Learn how and why to use upholstery tools for stapling, tacking, and sewing. Students may also bring their own chair (with prior approval), provided it is similar in construction to the class project. To personalize your chair, students are encouraged to bring three yards of decorative upholstery-weight fabric to use as the finishing cover. By the end of this course, participants will have a fully upholstered chair and the foundational skills to take on future projects with confidence.
