Double Curved Stereotomy: Building Circular Windows in a Curve
with Patrick Moore
$600
$550 tuition + $50 material fee
Workshop Description
In this hands-on workshop, each participant will build a scaled double-curved arched window frame set into a curved wall. Drawing inspiration from George Collings’ Circular Work in Carpentry & Joinery, the class focuses on using practical stereotomy to solve layout and geometry on paper, develop full-size drawings, and create accurate templates and frame members.
The weekend balances demonstration and practice: the instructor will model the techniques, then guide you as you lay out, template, cut, dry-fit, and assemble your own frame. The emphasis is on mastering a practical, repeatable approach to double-curved work. This course is ideal for carpenters, joiners, timber framers, architects, and makers with solid hand- and power-tool experience. Due to the short format, the project is limited to the double-curved header/arched window frame; sashes, sills, glazing, and finishing are not included.
Key Points

- Produce accurate full-size drawings and reusable templates
- Transfer complex curves from drawing to stock reliably
- Cut, fit, and assemble curved frame members at scale
