Workshop Description
This class will start with a quick overview of various methods for constructing landing nets as well as design considerations. Students will be shown quick and easy methods for developing a custom design. Participants will prepare their gluing form and handle inset. After a quick demo on preparing the wood strips and warm water bending, each student will have a chance to bend sample lamination strips. Following a discussion of clamping systems and a demonstration of the gluing method, all students will glue their own net frame. During the class, we will discuss using epoxy as a wood finish and rotational finishing. There will be a demonstration of this technique. The second day, students will remove the net frame from the gluing form and will be led through the sanding and machining process. Each student will shape their handle to a pleasing contour before starting the final sanding and detailing. After a discussion of net bag attachment techniques, the students will be guided in the steps to complete their net. Along the way, there should be time to discuss fishing and life.
