Workshop Description

Ryan’s weeklong class guides students through the complete process of creating a wire tree sculpture. The course begins with selecting and preparing a stone base, including cutting, flattening, drilling, and sealing. Students then learn to solder brass rod for the armature and practice twisting and shaping copper wire to form the tree. Each participant creates a sculpture in a style that reflects their own artistic vision. Instruction covers both technical methods and design choices, with attention to detail in every step. In addition to the hands-on work, Ryan shares insights from his 14 years of experience as a professional artist, including stories from his career, highlights of past projects and commissions, and explanations of his creative decision-making process. By the end of the class, students gain practical skills in stone preparation, soldering, and wire artistry, along with a completed tree sculpture of their own design.
