Building the Ferrer Ornamental Carving Jig
with Roberto Ferrer
$725
$550 tuition + $175 material fee
Workshop Description
In this hands-on workshop, students construct an ornamental carving jig-a versatile fixture that transforms a conventional woodturning lathe into a tool for creating intricate, repeating patterns inspired by the ornate work of the Rose Engine. Built from plywood and readily available hardware, the jig is designed for customization to fit nearly any lathe, making it a practical addition to the home shop. Once complete, participants put the jig to use by designing and carving a rosette, a decorative element that can stand alone or serve as inspiration for future projects such as the Wall Sculpture class. By the end of the course, students leave with a fully functional jig, a finished rosette, and the knowledge to adapt the jig for continued creative exploration.

- Learn project planing and layout strategies
- Process materials and prepare components for accuracy
