Eric Key,

the New Director of MASW

I am proud to announce that Eric Key will be stepping in as the new Director of MASW. Beginning in 2026, Eric will work closely with me as he transitions into his new role—and as I step into a new one myself.

Eric’s woodworking journey began while he was still in high school. During his senior year, he split his time between school and working at Hall & House, a large retail lumberyard in Indianapolis. He started in the interior door department, where he learned to build, assemble, and hang high-quality wooden doors. After graduating in 1997, Eric continued full-time with Hall & House, moving into architectural millwork, where he gained experience in everything from custom cabinetry to stairways and large-scale timber frame projects. It was there that Eric discovered his love for woodworking.

While building his career at Hall & House, Eric also built a rich life. He married his wife, Christa; earned his master’s degree in Divinity from Indiana Wesleyan University; became pastor of Bethany Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis; welcomed two sons, Nathan and Wyatt; and continued to supplement his income with interior trim, remodeling, and carpentry projects.

In 2016, Eric took his first MASW class, a Joinery workshop—followed by a veneering class in 2017, both taught by me. By the end of that second class, I recognized not only his passion for craftsmanship but also his deep character as a man of faith, devoted to family, and committed to excellence. I knew we needed him on our team. In 2018, Eric joined MASW full time. Since then, he has assisted in more than 250 workshops, earned his MASW Master’s, and added ā€œinstructorā€ to his list of achievements.

2018 was also the year we lost Zane to cancer. Before his passing, Zane told me how impressed he was with Eric. I never thought it would be possible to replace Zane, but Eric embodies the same qualities: remarkable skill, a gift for working with people, and even a sense of humor almost as crazy as Zane’s.

I know that under Eric’s leadership, and with the support of our incredible staff, including Pat and Markee, Tyler, Brian, Kyle, Patrick, and our dedicated volunteers each week,

the future of MASW will be in excellent hands.
