Workshop Description
Discover the art of building an exquisite collector’s-size Chippendale chest of drawers, a timeless piece destined to be treasured for generations. Under the guidance of master craftsmen Jeff Headley and Steve Hamilton, students will learn the traditional joinery techniques and refined details that define this furniture classic. Working from a provided materials and tools list, participants can select their own woods, both primary and secondary, and bring their favorite tools to the workshop. Over the course of the week, students will master essential joinery, including hand-cut dovetails (pins, tails, and sliding dovetails), and gain experience crafting ogee bracket feet. From initial design and layout through final assembly, students will sharpen their skills while creating a piece that reflects the elegance of 18th-century craftsmanship. This chest is a scaled version of a traditional Chippendale chest of drawers and represents the upper section of a miniature highboy previously offered by Jeff and Steve, now enhanced with bracket feet and molding. Pair it with their Miniature Collector’s Lowboy class offered in April to complete the full miniature highboy.
