Workshop Description
This class will be an in-depth exploration of the techniques used to create leaded art glass, with an emphasis on the American School of Leaded Art Glass, whose beginnings trace back to L.C. Tiffany in NYC and John La Farge circa 1870 in Boston, Mass. In this class, John will go beyond what is typically thought of as “stained glass,” using techniques that are uniquely American. Students will be introduced to proper tools and their use, glass selection, the artful use of colored-opalescent glass, glass cutting, copper foil construction, soldering a copper foil panel, and the design and production of original works. Throughout the week, there will be lots of hands-on practice that will help everyone learn the fundamental techniques that will lead to creating highly detailed and unique work and will enable anyone who attends to pursue adding leaded art glass to their homes-whether in fine woodworking, a window, or doors. Each student will make an original art glass panel designed by John specifically for this class. This is a rare and special opportunity to learn this uniquely American style from a master craftsman in the medium of fine leaded art glass.
