Diamond Polishing: Giving Semi-Precious Stones a Radiant Surface

Workshop Description

Incredible beauty lies just beneath the surface of stone, waiting to be revealed. Semi-precious stones often hide their radiant colors, patterns, and depth beneath a thin layer of imperfections and scratches. With the right tools and techniques, this hidden brilliance can be brought to light. Why diamond? Because of the hardness of stone, only a harder material can refine its surface. Diamond, the hardest of all minerals, is used with water in a series of diamond pads to polish away imperfections, producing a permanent, glass-like finish. This process leaves nothing to obscure the natural fire, detail, and color locked within the stone. For centuries, people have sought out these particularly beautiful stones, valued for their rarity, color, and grain patterns, and collectively termed them “semi-precious.” Materials for additional or larger projects will be available for sale.

Key Points

  • Create a rough edge black granite Lazy Susan with recessed bearing
