Workshop Description
This class is geared toward students who understand the basics of fused glass and want to take their skills to the next level. Focus will be on design and composition, materials, and textures, as well as forming and shaping using molds to create bowls, plates, and other sculptural items. Slumping and draping are common topics. This workshop will incorporate the use of a CNC Waterjet in order to tackle more complex projects and techniques. Students build on their design skills, learning more complex patternmaking and how to incorporate various materials, such as different colors, textures, and dichroic glass. Students will be encouraged to take their creativity and think outside the box in order to create a 3D box or building structure. There will be an off-site field trip to GRT Glass Design where students will learn how to include shapes and structures into their projects to create glass panels that tend toward three dimensions.
Key Points
- Design and composition
- Incorporate components made on a CNC Waterjet
- After fusing the glass, projects include wall hangings and 3D boxes and/or buildings
- Forming and shaping
- Technical mastery: focus on firing schedules and kiln operation
- Achieve different effects, such as a “tack fuse” for texture or a “full fuse” for a smooth surface
- Using Bullseye Glass 90 COE for all projects
