Workshop Description
Spalted wood isn’t just black lines and rot. A host of fungi create spalted wood, and they do so in a rainbow of colors, from blue-green to pink to orange and everything in between. And while colorful spalted wood can be hard to find in nature (especially in usable form), it is very easy to create at home. Join Dr. Spalting (Dr. Seri Robinson) for a fun weekend adventure into DIY spalting. Students will harvest their own fungal pigments, then apply them to create complex, durable colors on any material they choose. Students are encouraged to bring a host of materials to color, from fabrics to woodwork to woodturnings. Spalting isn’t just for wood!
