Workshop Description
Tired of tear out and uneven finishes on your lathe projects? Join Dr. Spalting (Dr. Seri Robinson) for a five-day tutorial on turning spalted wood. Both technique- and project-based, students of all skill levels will learn about the anatomy of spalted wood and spalting fungi, the history of woodturning and spalting, and how to turn spalted wood without the use of glue, sandpaper, or stabilizers. An emphasis will be placed on tool orientation, turning speeds, and learning to “read” the unique anatomical structure of each piece of wood. Come prepared to learn and play as we do a deep dive into this delicate yet stunning material.
