Workshop Description
For most people, bowl turning is the most fascinating direction when starting out turning. There is a lot of freedom in form, you get to make big shavings, you can finish a project within a day, and it’s a lot of fun. In Simon’s class, students will start with some simple bowls to get a feel for the tools and materials. Technique is the key focus as it will make all future bowls easier. With the technique and tool selection falling in place, participants will look at different designs and shapes, navigating the differences in the process to get the desired results. Platters use the same techniques; however, design-wise, they open other doors for creativity. As students progress through the week, Simon will challenge the group with thin-walled bowls and square-rimmed bowls. This might sound intimidating; however, as your skills build throughout the week, confidence will also grow.
