Hand Threaded Chasing
with Jason Breach
$565
$550 tuition + $15 material fee
Workshop Description
It’s hard to believe, but it is possible to produce a screw-threaded lidded box using a wood lathe and basic tools, where two components twist together. Hand thread chasing allows box lids or hollow form lids to be screwed onto the connecting base, but this takes some practice and is a skill that every turner should learn. The starting point will be the choice of materials. Jason will discuss what will and what won’t hold a cut thread, how to obtain the best results possible, as well as the tools required-what they do, how to use and hold them, and how to sharpen them. During the weekend, students will make two boxes with threaded joints, allowing time to practice and learn the thread chasing technique, while also using a range of traditional basic turning tools and the skills required to use them. This is a great course to follow Jason’s full-week class, as it will add another interesting feature to box making. This class is suitable for those with basic turning tool skills.
