Workshop Description

Discover the fundamentals of working with borosilicate glass in this weeklong introduction to flameworking, designed for both beginners and those looking to refine and enhance their existing skills. Students will learn how to safely use the torch, control heat, and shape molten glass into pendants, marbles, and small sculptural forms. A key focus of the course will be on learning how to blend and work with different colors of glass and understanding how to layer and combine colors to achieve desired effects. Students will also explore how varying the temperature of the torch can enhance these colors, adding depth and richness to their work. Through hands-on practice, everyone will discover the impact of heat control on color vibrancy and how to use this knowledge to create visually striking pieces. Through demonstrations and guided practice, Burt will help students build a strong foundation in shaping, attaching, and coloring techniques. By the end of the course, students will not only have completed several unique glass pieces but will also have a solid understanding of lampworking techniques.
