Workshop Description
In this five-day course, students take a concept from idea to finished glass sculpture. Beginning with sketches and small clay models, they learn how to translate designs into solid glass forms. Starting with clear glass, participants establish efficient methods for reproducing shapes and testing variations before progressing to advanced coloring techniques that emphasize transparency and personal style. The primary focus will be on figurative, animal, and nature-inspired sculptures. Instruction highlights proper timing, heat management, and tool control to maximize efficiency at the bench. Students also work in two-person teams, practicing shop etiquette, developing communication skills, and supporting one another in achieving sculptural goals. Additional techniques such as stuff cups, cane, and rolled powder patterns will be introduced to broaden creative possibilities. This course is designed for those with prior glassblowing experience. Instructor Nic recommends that participants complete one of the school’s previous weeklong or weekend classes to be best prepared for this workshop.
