Workshop Description
Spend five unforgettable days crafting a miniature Queen Anne lowboy-a child-sized collector’s piece built with the same meticulous joinery as its full-sized counterpart. This heirloom-quality project blends beauty, tradition, and function, making it both a conversation starter and a lasting treasure. With over 20 years of teaching experience at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking, Jeff and Steve have guided countless students through historically inspired projects, including their popular miniature highboy. In this class, the focus shifts to the lowboy, designed as a stand-alone piece of functional folk art enhanced by a shaped top. Using a provided cut list, students can bring their own wood and build with period-accurate joinery: hand-cut dovetails, mortise-and-tenon joints, and more. Students will shape elegant cabriole legs and choose from three classic foot styles-Queen Anne (pad foot), trifid or drake foot, or the ball-and-claw. To elevate the piece further, students can carve a decorative shell on a drawer front and add refined details like a scalloped front rail and sculpted knee blocks. Looking ahead, Jeff and Steve will also offer a Collector’s Edition chest of drawers in October-the upper section of their miniature highboy. Each piece stands beautifully on its own, but together they form the complete miniature highboy, a highlight of their teaching legacy.
