Learn basic skills for applying turning in furniture design. Students will explore the traditional techniques of joinery used to make chairs, stools, tables and any aspect of furniture design where turning can be applied. Michael will share the importance of selection of types of wood and grain direction to make turning easier and aesthetically pleasing. Learning how to do round tenons for different applications of furniture and seating. Students can make a small footstool with a turned or square top by applying different techniques for construction. Learn cutting techniques, replication of parts, off set techniques, joinery, combining parts to create unique design, carving, and/or bending after turning and proper selection of materials.
