During the Federal Period, furniture adopted a neo-classic style with heavy architectural influences. To break up the monotony of large flat surfaces, fancy veneers were set into the middle with a contrasting radial grain border separated by either single, double or triple stringing. In this class, students will explore a wide assortment of possibilities ranging from a basic oval to a more elaborate scalloped border. There may even be an opportunity to play with oddball shapes which are more organic in form. As students gain an understanding and mastery of the technique, the possibilities are endless.
