More Information on this Workshop

The Pathfinder shoe was designed in the 1920’s by the Cordwainer Shop founder and was originally offered as a shoe kit to parents who wanted to make shoes at home for their children. The Pathfinder has stood the test of time as a classic oxford for men and women. Pathfinder shoes were worn by Henry Ford, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Ceasar Romero and other Hollywood actors after meeting the Cordwainer founder while he was in Hollywood on a fund-raising mission to get the Cordwainer Shop off the ground. The Pathfinder was the original Cordwainer Shoe that laid the foundation for a family run business that has run continuously for over 100 years. In this workshop, students will use original antique tin patterns from the 1920’s and choose from a large array of exotic and standard style leathers to create their own Pathfinder. Molly will show students how to lay the patterns for proper sizing and adjusting pattern sizes to fit wide or narrow widths or other orthopedic issues which is a big part of creating a comfortable Pathfinder. Students choose from a variety of colors of kangaroo lacing, known to be extremely strong and durable, for the lacing that holds the uppers together. Students will enter the unique world of shoemaking as they hand sew the leather sole to the uppers which will be made specifically to each student’s foot size. Cordwainer shoes classes are fun, informative and fast paced.
