A violin scroll is its own small composition of necessary functionality and gracefully unwinding lines presenting an engaging challenge to design, layout, and execute. This workshop takes the aspiring violinmaker or simply the curious carver, through all of those challenges including tools, templates and techniques. David will start the week with a block of wood and by the end of the class have students to the point where they have fully carved a scroll and pegbox. He will also discuss requirements of the fingerboard and neckshaft and begin work on those elements, as time permits. This class will be open to anyone who just wants to learn the skill of the graceful carving of scrolls. BUT over the next several years, David will return to add additional components that will lead to completing a totally handmade violin. Students are not required to attend the entire series.
There is an annual, nonrefundable registration fee of $45.
This registration fee is not a part of the class fee and is not deducted from the final balance due. This is the financial binding that locks you into the class and starts the registration process. This fee does not apply to students who only take one single day workshop.
