There are so many ways to decorate your work that Steve thought it would be a good idea to introduce a new batch of decorative details that were not covered in his annual Decorative Details workshop. Steve will start with a review of simple linework but quickly move on to some of his favorite designs. Banding can be simple or complex, and in this class, students will make some of the more complex ones. The same pertains to pictorial ovals or “patera,” as they are historically termed. During the week students will make a Baltimore floral oval with the most basic of tools and materials. Bordered veneer panels, such as drawer and door fronts and table aprons, add a sense of sophistication to a piece and students will explore straight, oval and rolling borders. Students will dive into the technique of hammer veneering which is as relevant today as in the past. This class is especially structured so that the regular Decorative Details course is not a prerequisite.
