In this fun and informative class, students will literally go from a rough-sawn board to a finished table. The focus, though, is not just on economy. By getting all of the parts from one board, it’s possible to ensure a great color match throughout the piece. And by cutting parts from strategic locations in the board, everyone will end up with a project with the pleasing grain patterns in all the right places. Along the way, students will learn the right way to mill wood, both resawing and rough-milling stock. Once the parts are straight and square, then students will get to work on building the table using traditional joinery techniques that can be put to use on any project. Finally, Mike will demonstrate how to dress up the table by adding curves and shaping the legs in a contemporary cabriole leg profile. It’s a great exercise that illustrates how adding subtle details can have a big impact on your furniture. Just pack up your tools and come for a fun week.
