about this workshop
Humidors present a special challenge in woodworking. Differential humidity isn’t especially deferential to wood construction. To make a humidor that lasts takes precision and knowledge of the properties of wood. Ron will discuss the techniques and material assemblies that respect those principles. This will be a fast-paced weekend class. Students will work with fast setting adhesives and shellac war oil finishes to facilitate the timeline. Students will be provided with pre veneered blanks for the case components and fabricate the joinery then assemble the box. During the weekend participants will also completely assemble the lid, including veneering. There will be an opportunity to finish the humidor with a walnut oil finish or shellac, either of which can be subsequently finished with other high build coatings by the student at home.
