Boxes have both insides and outsides. While we are often instructed to “think outside the box,” “inside the box” is where we have the greatest chance to do our “outside the box” creative craftsmanship. By thinking” inside the box”, we can make them more useful, more beautiful and more expressive of our values and sense of self. Now that you’ve crafted your most exquisite box, what comes next? Doug will help students think through the insides, discuss, brainstorm and share box making processes. He will remove the mystery through a very thorough discussion of ways to make dividers, linings, trays, drawers and compartments in perfect craftsmanship. This will make decorative boxes more beautiful, useful and interesting. From a design stand point, Doug will provide strategies that maintain a sense of continuity inside and a sense of surprise that rewards anyone who opens one of these works of art.
