Illuminated Letters with Master Penman Harvest Crittenden August 13 - 14, 2022

about this workshop

Illuminated letters are a joy to create and a beauty to behold. They can seem daunting at first, not knowing how or where to begin. Students not familiar with Illuminated Letters often think that they cannot do it, until they do! Harvest will break the subject down into very manageable steps, and work through the process one step at a time. Students will start with choosing a letter to work on, then transferring patterns, working with gold leaf, the best methods of painting and the materials to use, painting the background pattern, tooling the gold and finishing their chosen letters. Illuminated Letters can stand alone, be used with certificates, awards, on recommended paper, vellum or on wood. They make meaningful gifts, and the same skills are used to create family crests. The more students become comfortable with the process, the more creative ways they will think of to use them. Each student is free to choose their own letter. Alphabets will be provided.
