about this workshop
Exotic inlays and surface decorations add a WOW factor to any project. In this class, students will learn to embellish their work with all sorts of inlay including wood, mother-of-pearl, brass, gemstones, paua shell, pigmented resins, and play with texture, color, iridescence, and chatoyance using exotic and unconventional materials. Students will also gain a broader understanding of various resins, including when and how to properly use them. Students will learn how to create fine inlay details and patterns cutting by freehand and with templates to cut perfect repeatable shapes every time. “You bring it, we inlay it!” Emphasis will be on experimentation and exploring various casting resins, iridescent pigments, micas, and metal powders for making stunning mosaic inlays, too. These techniques can be used to accent boxes, turnings, tables, or simply hung on the wall as a work of art. Students will go home with a zillion samples and the knowledge and confidence of how to make even more. Scott is an enthusiastic and high-energy craftsman and a great teacher—be prepared to push your limits.
