about this workshop
“It is one thing to build something that looks like a guitar, it is entirely another to build something that plays and sounds like a guitar!” Those who have attended one of John’s guitar workshops have probably heard him repeat this saying numerous times. On Saturday this class will focus on how to do a final set up on the guitar that includes proper nut slotting, truss rod adjustment, adjusting the saddle and neck angle. John will also spend considerable time teaching how to compensate the saddle for perfect intonation and pitch. The student’s guitars (either one you built or a store-bought guitar) will be used for case studies and examples. There will be plenty of time over the weekend to work on your own instrument. On Sunday the class will focus on guitar design and the critical aspects that students need to be aware of when designing an instrument, whether starting from scratch or changing aspects of a traditional design.
If you have an instrument that hasn’t been completed or are starting a new project and need some direction, this will be a great opportunity to receive some guidance from John. Or if you find yourself stuck at a particular point of the project, he will help you get over the hurdle. This will create a learning atmosphere in which everyone can learn from each other’s experiences.
