More Information on this Workshop

The guitar building jigs and fixtures class is a unique opportunity to build your own guitar building jigs and fixtures. After completing the fixtures, you will use them to make actual guitar parts. This class provides a rare opportunity to learn lutherie methods that are typically only learned through a hard-to-come-by luthier apprenticeship. This class will focus on jigs and fixtures for making guitar necks, fingerboards and bridges. Students will build the three different neck routing jigs as well as a fixture to hold the neck for carving. Once the jigs are completed, each student will carve their own acoustic guitar neck from raw stock. John will also demonstrate various methods for making and slotting fingerboards and bridges. He will also discuss the mathematical formulas for laying out the frets for any stringed musical instrument. John will demonstrate how all the jigs and fixtures are to be used.
