This topic is considered by many to be the Holy Grail of guitar building! 85% of the sound produced from the guitar is directly related to the soundboard. Therefore, it is imperative to understand how to make a soundboard that is tonally responsive as well as structurally sound. Students will learn how to sharpen and set up tools needed in making soundboards, how to select soundboard material and then work to thickness, brace and “voice” their soundboards. Upon completion of the course, students will have a soundboard ready to be used on an instrument they are building or to use as a reference for making future soundboards. Focus will be on hand tools but some power tools may also be used. Students are also encouraged to bring their own guitars to work on adjustments and set up if time permits. Whether you are just beginning to make guitars or are making them full time, this is an opportunity to take your building to the next level.
