about this workshop
In this fun, accessible, and fast-paced class students will learn how to forge their very own mytho-Nordic historic and mythology inspired axe out of 1045 steel and hickory wood. Students will utilize a variety of both ancient and modern methods to forge their axe heads, both by hand and by utilizing powerful hydraulic forging presses. Students will learn how to grind their axe to functional shapes along with heat-treating and sharpening. To finish them students will decorate their axe with history-informed motifs on hickory haft-handles. Axe forging, from start to finish, can seem daunting to even some of the most skilled blacksmiths and bladesmiths, however in this class David will dispel of the manufacturing-myths and share the fundamentals of what makes an axe both beautiful and functional.
