More Information on this Workshop

This class will explore the fun and surprisingly accessible craft of ancient swordmaking at an introductory level from a unique angle, utilizing the uncommon material of aluminum-bronze. The class will cover a variety of both traditional and modern skills. Under David’s guidance, students will forge and grind a bronze short-sword (or large dagger) complete with their own engraved or etched decorations, as well as a matching leather scabbard. All these elements will feature the student’s personal design aesthetic. The short-swords forged in this class won’t be strictly limited to historical designs, as the class will also explore mythic ideas and shapes, inspired by landscapes and lore. The difficulty level will be determined by each student and will depend on their skill level and on their ambitions for the week.
