More Information on this Workshop

From the beginning of time, people have been making belongings from the hides of animals to serve specific needs. As time progressed and various types of leather tanning were perfected, cowhide moved to the forefront for function and longevity and has been used extensively since then! This class will cover leather types and selection, handling and cutting leather, leather tools and uses, as well as preparing different types of leather for a variety of projects. Students will then learn pattern layout and progress to carving, stamping, dyeing and finishing leather. The focus for this workshop will be on creating a strong foundation in leatherwork so students can take their knowledge and move in the direction their ideas take them. No experience necessary–open to all levels!
