Eclipse the Ellipse: Design & Make an Oval Table with Michael Fortune August 29 - September 2, 2022

about this workshop

Ovals are an intriguing shape, but they can be hard to get the proportions right. In this class students can make the coffee table in the photo (30” x 46” x 16”H) or make one to their own size requirement. Students can then change the purpose and create an oval end table or hall table, even a dining table. Learn how to layout and cut ovals by hand, use a shop made router or even with a purchased router jig. The smooth arcs on the top are done with a shop made bandsaw jig. The ebonized base for the coffee table was stack laminated, but there are other base design options available.
